Use of AI Policy

Last updated: December 18, 2024

Introduction

Hofund Inc ("Mirror", "we", "us", or "our") uses artificial intelligence (AI) technology as a core part of Mirror OS to generate personalized reflections and insights based on the information you provide during your daily cycles.

This Use of AI Policy explains how we use AI in our services, what data is processed, what outputs are generated, and what rights and options you have regarding AI processing.

This Policy applies to all AI-powered features within Mirror OS, including but not limited to Morning Reset reflections, Midday Check insights, and Evening Loop closures.

Purpose of This Policy

The purpose of this Use of AI Policy is to:

  • Inform you about our use of AI in generating reflections and insights
  • Explain what information we process using AI
  • Describe the intended outputs and limitations of our AI system
  • Explain how we use data to improve our AI
  • Outline your options regarding AI processing
  • Protect your privacy and promote transparency

How We Use AI

Reflection Generation

When you complete a daily cycle (Morning Reset, Midday Check, or Evening Loop), we use AI to generate a personalized reflection based on the information you provide. The AI analyzes your inputs and generates supportive, contextual insights designed to help you reflect on your day and intentions.

AI Technology Used

Mirror OS uses OpenAI's language models to generate reflections. Your cycle inputs are sent to OpenAI's API, which processes the information and returns a generated reflection. OpenAI's use of this data is governed by their own privacy policy and terms of service.

What Data Is Sent to AI

When you submit a cycle, the following information may be sent to the AI for processing:

  • Morning Reset: Your emotional state, chosen operating identity, intended meaningful outcome, and predicted friction points
  • Midday Check: Your current energy state and the pattern you intend to interrupt
  • Evening Loop: Your reflection on how the day went and lessons learned
  • Context: Relevant guidance documents that help the AI understand our methodology and tone

We do not send personally identifiable information such as your name, email address, or IP address to the AI for reflection generation.

AI Output

The AI generates a text-based reflection that is:

  • Personalized to the specific inputs you provided
  • Designed to be supportive, grounding, and action-oriented
  • Not intended as professional advice, therapy, or mental health treatment

Safety Measures

Distress Detection

Mirror OS includes guardrails that detect potential distress signals in user inputs. If our system detects language that may indicate you're in crisis or experiencing significant distress, we will:

  • Provide a supportive message with crisis resources
  • Include contact information for professional help (such as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline)
  • Skip the standard AI reflection in favor of direct support resources

This is not a substitute for professional mental health care. If you are in crisis, please contact emergency services or a mental health professional immediately.

Content Guardrails

Our AI system is configured with guardrails to ensure reflections are:

  • Supportive and non-judgmental
  • Free from harmful, discriminatory, or inappropriate content
  • Focused on reflection and action rather than diagnosis or treatment
  • Consistent with our methodology and tone guidelines

Data Storage and Usage

What We Store

We store the following information related to AI processing:

  • Your original cycle inputs
  • The AI-generated reflection
  • Metadata about the interaction (timestamp, cycle type, session identifier)
  • Whether any guardrails were triggered

How We Use Stored Data

We use stored interaction data to:

  • Allow you to review your past cycles and reflections
  • Improve our AI system and methodology
  • Analyze patterns to enhance the user experience
  • Conduct research on personal development and behavioral patterns
  • Train and refine our AI prompts and guidelines

Anonymization for AI Training

When using data to improve our AI systems, we anonymize and aggregate the data. This means individual user inputs are stripped of identifying information and combined with other data points before being used for system improvements.

Limitations of AI

AI Is Not Perfect

No AI system is perfect. Despite our efforts to provide helpful and accurate reflections, there are inherent limitations and risks:

  • AI-generated content may contain inaccuracies or errors
  • Reflections may not always be appropriate for your specific situation
  • The AI may misinterpret the intent or meaning of your inputs
  • AI cannot fully understand complex emotional or psychological states
  • There is a risk of bias in AI-generated content

Not Professional Advice

AI-generated reflections are NOT a substitute for professional mental health care, therapy, counseling, or medical advice. Mirror OS is a personal reflection tool, not a healthcare service.

If you are experiencing mental health challenges, please seek help from qualified professionals. In case of emergency, contact emergency services or crisis hotlines:

  • National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 988
  • Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 741741
  • Emergency Services: 911

Responsibility for Use

You are responsible for evaluating AI-generated content and using it appropriately. Do not rely solely on AI reflections for important life decisions, and always exercise your own judgment.

Intended Benefits

Our intended benefits of using AI in Mirror OS include:

  • Providing immediate, personalized reflections without waiting for human response
  • Consistent methodology and tone across all reflections
  • Scalable support that's available whenever you need it
  • Continuous improvement based on aggregate user patterns
  • Enhanced self-reflection through thoughtful, contextual prompts

Bias Mitigation

We take steps to minimize bias in our AI system:

  • Regular review of AI outputs for patterns of bias
  • Diverse testing of the system across different user scenarios
  • Clear guidelines in our AI prompts to avoid stereotyping or discrimination
  • Ongoing monitoring and adjustment of our methodology

If you notice any content that appears biased, discriminatory, or inappropriate, please report it to us at contact@trymirrorapp.com.

Your Rights and Options

Transparency

You have the right to understand how AI is being used. When viewing your saved cycles, you can see both your original inputs and the AI-generated reflection, allowing you to understand what information was used to generate each reflection.

Data Access

You have the right to access the data we have stored about you, including your cycle inputs and AI-generated reflections. You can view your recent cycles directly in the app, and request additional data by contacting us.

Data Deletion

You have the right to request deletion of your data. You can:

  • Clear your local browser data at any time
  • Request deletion of your data from our servers by contacting us

Feedback and Corrections

If you receive an AI reflection that you believe is incorrect, inappropriate, or unhelpful, we encourage you to provide feedback so we can improve our system. Contact us at contact@trymirrorapp.com.

Opt-Out

If you do not wish to use AI-generated reflections, you may choose not to use the cycle features that generate AI content. The core methodology and frameworks of Mirror OS can still be valuable without the AI reflection component.

Third-Party AI Providers

We use OpenAI as our AI provider. When you use Mirror OS, your cycle inputs are processed by OpenAI's systems. OpenAI has its own privacy policy and data handling practices. Key points:

  • OpenAI may process your inputs according to their terms of service and privacy policy
  • We use OpenAI's API, which has different data handling than their consumer products
  • We encourage you to review OpenAI's privacy policy at openai.com/policies/privacy-policy

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Use of AI Policy from time to time as our AI practices evolve or as required by law. The updated version will be indicated by an updated date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this Policy periodically.

Your continued use of Mirror OS after changes to this Policy constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
